Abstract

lactate dehydrogenase (LD) isoenzymes are tetramers formed from various combination of two types of subunits(M and H), and separated into 5 different components by electrophoresis. We detected multiple abnormal bands of LD isoenzymes by
electrophoresis
in the serum and hemolysate of 42 year-old man and five of his family members. The LD-1, LD-2, LD-3 isoenzymes revealed one, two, three bands, respectively. The LD-4 isoenzyme showed multiple bands and LD-5 was rarely seen. Serum and erythrocyte
hemolysate from two of three daughters, one son, one younger sister and father displayed a similar pattern. this observed pattern is consistent with LD-M subunit variant (Ldmem-2 type).
